The school is still experiencing problems and dangerous situations during drop-off/pick-up times before and after school. Please be mindful of the road changes to Ballenger Creek Pike, as this road no longer supports parked cars along the front of the school. Unlike last year, there is no full shoulder; cars parked along there are in the right-hand lane, parked illegally, and risk causing accidents.
The school is also still seeing students dropped off across the street. These students then run across four lanes of fast traffic to get inside before the bell. This is highly dangerous, especially with new student drivers and anxious commuters.
Finally, while a minority, there are parents who do not follow the traffic patterns in and around the parking lot, putting students at risk while walking through the parking lot. We are assisting the school in urging everyone to follow the proper traffic guidelines and laws. We don’t ever want to be in the position where someone is hit trying to get to class. Thank you for your careful consideration!
October 6th is the date of this year’s homecoming dance and the theme is “enchanted forest”! The PTSA is working with Ms. Dills to help decorate, provide a snack table, and recruit volunteers for the dance. A LuckyPot notice will be going out soon, so stay tuned to Find Out First. Interested parents, please sign up to donate snacks and water as listed (only “baby” water bottles please!), and to volunteer if you would like to chaperone or work the coat-check area.
To the start of the 2018-2019 school year! Back to School Night was a huge success, drawing crowds of students, parents, and guardians. The PTSA was happy to talk to many of you, to discuss the PTSA, the school, and to sign up members. If you didn’t get the chance to sign up at BTSN, but picked up a form, you can send it in with your child and payment in an envelope addressed to “THS PTSA”. The envelope should be dropped off at the main office. Forms may be downloaded here, THS Membership Forms 2018-2019, or picked up in the main office.
Remember seniors to join PTSA this fall, to be eligible for our $500 scholarship!
The slate of officer nominees for Tuscarora High School PTSA next year is as follows:

If anyone is interested in a chair position for next year, we have many opportunities! Please comment below or contact us with your interest.
Attention THS Seniors, the application for the THS PTSA College scholarship is now available here. The application form and essay must be submitted to Guidance by April 30th, 2018 – no exceptions.
FCPS Superintendent Theresa Alban will be at Ballenger Creek Middle School on Monday, Feb. 26th at 7pm. These informal chats, sponsored by the PTA Council of Frederick County, are a really great way to ask your questions, gain insight and clarification to issues, and to introduce concerns to Dr. Alban (individual/specific personnel issues will not be discussed). The event will end at 8:30pm.
Please stop by and take advantage of this event happening in our own feeder pattern!
Join us tomorrow evening at 6:30pm, in the THS Media Center, for our February meeting. Attached are the draft meeting minutes from our January meeting, for your review before the meeting. We will be discussing our spring activities and welcome your input.
